The USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) was a federal socialist state that existed from 1922 to 1991, spanning much of Eastern Europe and Northern Asia. Formed after the Russian Revolution and the civil war, it united multiple republics under a single political and economic system governed by the Communist Party.

Beyond its geopolitical role, the USSR was a major cultural power, producing globally influential music, cinema, and literature. Soviet composers, filmmakers, and writers shaped artistic movements across Europe and Asia, blending state ideology with artistic innovation.

The dissolution of the USSR in 1991 resulted in the independence of its republics and marked one of the most significant political transformations of the 20th century.
