Asia

Asia is the Earth's largest and most populous continent, located primarily in the Eastern and Northern Hemispheres. It covers approximately 30% of the planet's total land area and is characterized by its immense geographical variety. The continent is bounded by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south, while its western border with Europe is traditionally defined by the Ural Mountains. Asia is home to some of the world's most extreme physical features, including the highest point on Earth, Mount Everest (8,848 meters), and the lowest point on land, the Dead Sea (roughly 430 meters below sea level).

Demographically, Asia is home to more than 4.7 billion people, representing roughly 60% of the global population. This massive human landscape is a mosaic of unparalleled diversity in terms of ethnicity, language, and belief systems. As the birthplace of most of the world's major religions—including Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Judaism, and Christianity—the continent possesses a deep spiritual and historical heritage. Politically and culturally, it is often divided into several distinct subregions: East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and Western Asia (often referred to as the Middle East), each with unique historical trajectories and cultural identities.

In the 21st century, Asia has emerged as the primary engine of the global economy. It hosts several of the world's most influential and fastest-growing economies, most notably China, Japan, India, and South Korea. The region is a global leader in high-tech manufacturing, telecommunications, and financial services. This rapid development has led many scholars to refer to the current era as the "Asian Century," reflecting the continent's projected dominance in global politics, culture, and trade. However, the continent continues to navigate significant challenges, ranging from rapid urbanization and environmental sustainability to complex geopolitical shifts.
