Chen Yue 陈悦
Chen Yue, a celebrated Chinese virtuoso of the dizi and xiao, has emerged as a pivotal figure in preserving and innovating traditional Chinese instrumental music. Born in Hangzhou, she is the last direct disciple of Zhao Songting, a revered southern-style dizi master, and has dedicated her career to reviving the spiritual and technical depth of Chinese bamboo flute performance. A trailblazer in her field, she became China’s first female master’s degree holder in dizi performance and released her debut solo album, Qing Zhu, in 2000, showcasing her emotive and technically refined style. Her academic and artistic journey, marked by rigorous training at the China Conservatory of Music and a rare early appointment as a professor, has positioned her as both a respected educator and a cultural ambassador.
