Videoclub
VIDEOCLUB was a French synth-pop duo formed in Nantes, France, in 2018 by Adèle Castillon and Matthieu Reynaud — a real-life couple whose chemistry both on and off stage became central to their charm. Castillon, already a popular YouTuber and actress, and Reynaud, the son of former professional guitarist Régis Reynaud, bonded over a shared love of 1980s nostalgia and cinema. Their YouTube channel amassed over 20,000 subscribers before they even posted a single note, thanks largely to Castillon's existing online following. They released their debut singles "Amour plastique" and "Roi" in September 2018, both of which would later appear on their sole studio album, Euphories. The music video for "Amour plastique," directed by Matthieu's sister Julie Reynaud, quickly went viral, racking up tens of millions of views and launching the duo into international stardom.
The duo's sound was a dreamy blend of electropop, French pop, and retro synth-wave — lush, reverb-soaked melodies paired with lyrics that painted vivid pictures of young love and heartbreak. "Amour plastique" became their signature anthem, a shimmering ode to passionate, almost obsessive romance that resonated with millions on YouTube, TikTok, and Spotify. Their debut album Euphories, released on January 29, 2021, through Petit Lion Productions, compiled 13 tracks including fan favorites like "En nuit," "Mai," and "Enfance 80," showcasing the duo's versatility and growing songwriting maturity. Critics praised the record for its impressive range, with The Independent highlighting the track "Roi" as a standout where Matthieu took a more prominent vocal role, demonstrating the depth of their musical partnership.
Despite their meteoric rise, VIDEOCLUB's story was inextricably tied to the personal relationship between its two members. In late 2021, Castillon revealed on TikTok that the couple had already separated before the duo officially disbanded, describing a painful estrangement from Reynaud's family. The breakup brought an end to what had been one of France's most beloved indie-pop acts, but their legacy endures — Euphories remains a timeless snapshot of young love filtered through a retro-futuristic lens, and tracks like "Amour plastique" continue to captivate new listeners worldwide, a testament to the magic two people from Nantes created together.
