Aigel
Aigel is a Russian electronic hip-hop duo formed in 2016, consisting of poet and vocalist Aigel Gaisina and electronic musician Ilya Baramiya. The group emerged when Gaisina approached Baramiya with the idea of creating music for a theatrical project based on her poetry collection, Sud (Court); their collaboration quickly evolved into a full-fledged musical act.
In April 2017, they released their debut album, 1190, whose title refers to a poignant personal story: the 1,190-day prison sentence given to Gaisina’s partner at the time. Widely recognized for their fusion of sharp electronic beats and deeply personal, socially resonant lyrics, Aigel has released several acclaimed albums, including Muzyka (2018), Eden (2019), and Pıyala (2020), the latter performed entirely in the Tatar language.
The duo gained massive international attention after the title track of their album "Pıyala" became the primary soundtrack for the hit 2023 TV series Slovo Patsana ("The Boy's Word"). This exposure propelled their Spotify streams tenfold and saw the song top global Shazam charts. Aigel is also distinguished by their seamless blending of Russian and Tatar languages and their outspoken stance on social issues, which ultimately led the members to relocate abroad in 2022.
