भारत este un stat din ^Asia de Sud cu acces la Oceanului Indian în sud, sud-vest, sud-est, mai exact în vest are acces la Marea Arabiei, în sud-vest la Marea Laccadive și în est la Golful Bengal. Se învecinează cu ^Pakistan și ^Afganistan la nord-vest, cu ^China, ^Nepal și ^Butan la nord și cu ^Myanmar și ^Bangladeș la est. India mai are și Insulele Laccadive, Andaman și Nicobar.

India este situată la nord de Ecuator între 8°4′ și 37°6′ latitudine nordică și între 68°7 și 97°25′ longitudine estică.
Este a șaptea țară ca mărime din lume, cu o suprafață totală de 3.287.263 kilometri pătrați Măsoară 3.214 km de la nord la sud și 2.933 km de la est la vest.
Are o frontieră terestră de 15.200 km și o coastă de 7.516 km.

Parlamentul Indiei este unul bicameral format din casa inferioară Lok Sabha și casa superioară Rajya Sabha. În structura actuală (2022) are 788 de locuri, 543 în Lok Sabha și 245 în Rajya Sabha.
