Aleksandr Sergeyevich Ustyugov

Aleksandr Sergeyevich Ustyugov was born on October 17, 1976, in Ekibastuz, Kazakh SSR (now Kazakhstan). Before pursuing a career in the arts, he initially trained as a locksmith-electrician and worked at the local Vostochny Coal Mine. His interest in performing led him from studies at Omsk State Transport University to working as a stage illuminator and actor at the Omsk Youth Theatre, alongside formal training at the Omsk Regional College of Culture and Art. In 1999, Ustyugov moved to Moscow to attend the prestigious Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute. After graduating in 2003, he joined the Russian Academic Youth Theatre (RAMT), gaining early acclaim for stage roles such as Parfyon Rogozhin in The Idiot.

Ustyugov achieved widespread recognition through his breakthrough screen role as homicide detective Roman Shilov in the popular police procedural series Cop Wars (Mentskiye Voyny), a character he portrayed across multiple seasons starting in the mid-2000s. This success established him as a prominent figure in Russian television and film. Over the years, he took on a wide range of leading roles, including Yevgeny Bazarov in the 2008 television adaptation of Fathers and Sons, Red Army soldier Ivan Moskalenko in Panfilov's 28 Men (2016), Grand Prince Yaropolk in Viking (2016), and corporate executive Viktor Toropov in the sci-fi drama Better Than Us (2018). He has also appeared in major television and cinema projects such as Godunov, The Golden Horde, and The Challenge (2023).

Beyond acting, Ustyugov has expanded his creative career into directing and music. He directed projects for the screen, including the 2015 historical drama series Chuma. In 2015, he also founded the rock group Ekibastuz—named after his hometown—serving as the frontman and lead vocalist. Having relocated to Saint Petersburg in 2014, Ustyugov was named an Honorary Citizen of Ekibastuz in 2017 for his achievements and ongoing cultural contributions. He continues to maintain a busy schedule across contemporary Russian film, television, and theater.
