Air raid sirens are sounding in Israeli cities after an Iranian attack. One of the missiles hit a target south of Jerusalem. About 10 to 15 missiles were fired, five of which hit their targets according to Israeli media. One of them hit a power station in Ashdod, which could cause power outages in southern Israel. Explosions were also recorded in Tel Aviv, Ashkelon and northern Israel. The sirens sounded for about 40 minutes without interruption.
The Israeli army has not yet provided information on damage or casualties. At the same time, questions have been raised about the country’s ability to effectively repel such attacks. Such massive shelling from Iran came as a surprise to Israel, which is accustomed to more localized conflicts. The economic damage from the strike is estimated at $200 million, and more than 30 Israelis have already filed for compensation.
The psychological impact on society is also significant. Israelis are accustomed to military action, but the massive destruction in the streets is alarming. Sirens are once again sounding in the north of the country, reminding them of the ongoing threat.
