In a recent telephone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the aftermath of Israeli military strikes on Iranian nuclear and residential sites. Araghchi strongly condemned the attacks, which killed several military commanders, academics, women, and children. He called the strikes a clear violation of international law and urged international institutions, especially the UN Security Council, to respond firmly.
Araghchi thanked China for voting against the IAEA Board resolution, which he said served as a pretext for Israeli aggression. He criticized the resolution—backed by three European nations and the U.S.—as politically motivated. Emphasizing Iran’s right to self-defense, Araghchi reiterated that Iran has responded and will continue to respond decisively to protect its sovereignty and citizens.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi reaffirmed China’s opposition to violations of Iranian sovereignty and condemned Israeli attacks on nuclear facilities as reckless and destabilizing. He noted that China had raised the issue at the SCO and UN Security Council, and called for regional de-escalation to prevent a broader conflict. Wang reiterated Iran’s consistent advocacy for peaceful nuclear development.
