In a recent phone call, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the aftermath of Israel’s military attacks on Iran, which targeted nuclear sites and residential areas, resulting in the deaths of civilians, including senior commanders and academics. Araghchi condemned the strikes as a clear breach of international law and urged global action to hold Israel accountable.
Lavrov reiterated Moscow’s strong opposition to the violation of Iran’s sovereignty and criticized Western support for the attacks as illegitimate. He emphasized the importance of avoiding escalation in the Middle East and praised recent communication between the Iranian and Russian presidents as a step toward greater bilateral coordination.
Araghchi thanked Russia for its support and warned of the regional consequences of continued Israeli aggression. He underlined Iran’s right to self-defense and stressed that the strikes occurred amid sensitive diplomatic talks, highlighting what he called Israel’s hostility toward peaceful resolution efforts.
