Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Kazakhstan on July 2 to attend the 24th summit of heads of state of SCO member countries, to be held from July 3 to 4. After that, the Chinese president will leave for Tajikistan where he will stay until July 6.

This is Xi’s fifth visit to Kazakhstan, He named the China-Kazakhstan partnership as a unique one, and it is believed that this visit will open up new prospects for bilateral cooperation.

In 2023, China positioned itself as Kazakhstan’s largest trading partner, with a 32% year-on-year increase to $41 billion. Kazakhstan’s exports include crude oil, metals and agricultural products while China has supplied Kazakhstan with machinery, electronics and consumer goods.

Kazakhstan has proven to be a key partner in China’s proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which aims to boost connectivity and promote global prosperity by developing infrastructure and facilitating trade and investment. In Kazakhstan, XI Jinping proposed for the first time, in 2023, the Silk Road Economic Belt Initiative.

A seminal article by Xi Jinping was published in the Kazakhstanskaya Pravda newspapers and on the website of the Kazinform news agency, before the start of the visit.

Our countries have always supported each other and have always been partners in difficult times. Our political trust in each other has reached a new level. The China-Kazakhstan relationship has made a leap from a comprehensive strategic partnership to a permanent comprehensive strategic partnership. The two countries agreed to work towards building a common future.

A China-Kazakhstan agreement on the mutual establishment of cultural centers was signed. The Chinese and Kazakh filmmakers have co-produced a film titled “The Composer,” which is their first co-production. Our bilateral cultural cooperation programs, including a Chinese university campus in Kazakhstan, a Luban workshop, and a traditional Chinese medicine center, have been fully implemented.

China and Kazakhstan have similar views in the sphere of international and regional affairs. Both countries uphold the vision of common, comprehensive cooperation and sustainable security and are determined to act as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order.
