Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi says Iran and Oman, as well as most countries in the region, share similar views on regional issues and call for stability in Syria
In a joint press conference in Tehran on Monday, December 30, 2024, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Omani Foreign Minister Said Badr Al Busaidi discussed regional developments and bilateral relations.
Araghchi emphasized the importance of maintaining the territorial integrity and unity of Syria, respecting all ethnic and religious groups, and forming an inclusive government. Both Iran and Oman share a common position on these issues, as do most countries in the region.
Since December 8, militants led by Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham have controlled Damascus and announced the end of President Bashar Al Assad’s rule. The HTS administration has promised to respect the rights of all religious groups, but the situation remains volatile and fragile.
Araghchi stressed the close cooperation between Iran and Oman on regional issues, including the need for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and humanitarian aid. Over 45,000 Palestinians have been killed in the conflict, mostly children and women.
Regarding Yemen, Araghchi said Tehran and Muscat support its unity and integrity and hope for peace talks.
Araghchi highlighted the growth of trade between Iran and Oman, which tripled in the past year, reaching 2.5 billion USD.
Omani FM Badr Al Bushaidi emphasized the commitment to strengthening cooperation and transparency in nuclear negotiations. He noted that Oman supports Iran’s non-interference policy and calls for stability in Syria. He conveyed a message from Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq Al Sayed to Iranian President Mahmoud Pezeshki and agreed to enhance trade and transportation.
