As two major developing countries and emerging economies, China and India should concentrate on mutual development and cooperation to maintain stable and balanced relations. This approach is crucial for their own progress and for the broader stability and prosperity of the Global South.
Speaking at a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun highlighted the importance of strategic cooperation between China and India. This alignment with the fundamental interests of their respective populations, exceeding 2.8 billion people each, reflects common aspirations across the region.
The spokesperson made the remarks at a daily press briefing when asked to comment on Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar’s recent speech, in which he said that India-China ties bear on the larger prospects of both nations and of the global order, and that India will handle its relations with China from a long-term perspective.
Guo emphasized that the two nations should actively implement the key understandings reached between their leaders. These include recognizing each other as opportunities for mutual development rather than threats, and as cooperative partners rather than competitors.
China and India should adopt a long-term perspective in their bilateral relations, avoiding confrontation and seeking common ground. This approach will foster regional stability and global peace, aligning with the principles of peaceful coexistence and the pursuit of a multipolar world order.
In addition, the two countries should uphold the principles of genuine multilateralism and advocate for an equal and orderly multipolar world. This will contribute to a more inclusive and beneficial global economic system, promoting common development and prosperity.
By working together, China and India can make significant contributions to regional and global stability, development, and peace, thereby enhancing the well-being of their peoples and the broader international community.
