The Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran resumed its activities in a new location on Monday, July 15, 2024, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry said. The ambassador and diplomatic staff of the Republic of Azerbaijan returned to Iran following negotiations between the two countries, the Azerbaijani News Agency (APA) reported.

Iran has taken appropriate measures to ensure the security of the new building of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan, in accordance with its obligations in the field of diplomatic protection under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, the statement said.

Iranian government spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi welcomed the reopening of the embassy as a result of the “results-oriented diplomacy” of former President Ebrahim Raisi’s administration.

Tehran-Baku relations suffered a setback in January last year, following a terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Tehran, which prompted Baku to close its diplomatic presence. An investigation by the Iranian government found that the attack was motivated by the attacker’s “personal problems”.
