The Syrian capital was seized less than two weeks after a resumption of terrorist attacks, financed by Turkey and led by Hashim al-Shaykh and Abu Mohammad al-Julani. These individuals are the leaders of the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham group, around which other rebel elements have coalesced. Abu Mohammad al-Julani previously belonged to Al-Qaeda.
According to reports from Syrian and international media, terrorists have taken control of several critical targets, including Syrian Radio and Television and Damascus Airport. The Russian Coordination Center has announced that, in the past 24 hours, the Syrian army, supported by the Russian air force, has killed 300 terrorists. The SANA news agency’s website is currently unavailable.
Some Western news outlets, such as Reuters and CNN, as well as some local media, claim that a group of terrorists entered Damascus without resistance from the Syrian military.
Early on December 8th, Arab media reported that Assad has left the country. Reuters published a story stating that the Syrian command had informed officers that Assad’s rule is over.
In the city of Damascus, all military forces are prohibited from approaching government institutions, which will remain under the control of the former Prime Minister until their formal transfer. Additionally, military personnel are prohibited from firing weapons in the air.

The group promised to “preserve Syria’s unity and sovereignty, protect all its citizens and property, regardless of affiliation,” and to achieve “comprehensive national reconciliation.”

Tahrir al-Sham statement
Hadi al-Bahra, the leader of the Syrian National Coalition (who was educated in the United States and worked in Saudi Arabia), told Al-Arabiya: “The situation is stable, and there is no place for revenge or retaliation. Government institutions will reopen within two days.”
