On Sunday, Abbas Araghchi headed a diplomatic mission to Damascus a few days after a large-scale attack launched by terrorist organizations led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) on government-controlled areas in northern Syria.

Military sources reported that intense clashes continued in the northern countryside of Hama in parallel with coordinated air strikes by the Syrian and Russian air forces. Araghchi conveyed Iran’s readiness to assist and support regional de-escalation efforts through dialogue and diplomatic means.

After his visit to Damascus, Araghchi proceeded to Ankara on Monday, where he engaged in discussions with his Turkish counterpart regarding the rise of terrorism in Syria and measures to counter it. Both parties expressed concern over the escalation of terrorist activities and increasing insecurity in the region. They acknowledged that no one would benefit from another military confrontation in Syria, as such a scenario would only serve to exacerbate the spread of terrorism throughout the area.

Araghchi underscored the significance of cooperation and alignment between Iran and Turkey in safeguarding regional stability and security. He urged both nations to collaborate in preventing another conflict from erupting in Syria.

Throughout his remarks, the Iranian official highlighted Israel’s role, supported by the United States, in exploiting the current situation in the Middle East resulting from recent aggression in Gaza and Lebanon. He cautioned against the adverse consequences of such actions on the region, advocating for a unified front against terrorism.

Additionally, Araghchi acknowledged Iran’s and Turkey’s determination to enhance bilateral relations, expressing hope for the early convening of the ninth meeting of the Iran-Turkey High-Level Cooperation Council in the coming year.

For his part, the Turkish minister affirmed his country’s dedication to deepening cooperation with Iran in various domains, including economic, political, cultural, and security sectors, as well as combating terrorism. He expressed concern regarding the spread of violence and instability in Syria, emphasizing the need for a peaceful solution to the conflict.
